Investing in whisky casks
Casks offer the highest potential returns. You buy an entire cask of maturing whisky directly from a distillery or broker. Value grows with age - a 10-year cask can be 3-5× its purchase price. After the 2023-2024 correction, the market is entering a selective growth phase valuing provenance, documentation, and realistic cost modelling. UK regulators note cask investing is not a regulated financial product - insist on independent HMRC-bonded storage and clear legal titles.

Bunnahabhain lets you buy a cask directly from the distillery and follow its journey from new make spirit to mature single malt. Choose the unpeated spirit the distillery is known for today (pear, apple, honey, coastal freshness) or peated Staoisha with smoke, brine and mineral depth. Availability is limited in both time and cask numbers, allocated first-come, first-served.

Practical details
- • Minimum 3 years maturation, commonly 10 years or more
- • A Bourbon Barrel yields roughly 250 bottles, a Bordeaux Hogshead roughly 300
- • Output is reduced by the angel's share - natural evaporation
- • Exit: buyback by CVH Spirits, secondary market or independent bottler
- • No VAT on purchase and no capital gains tax while in bond (verify with a tax adviser)

Bunnahabhain Mòine - Peated Islay Release
Spiritfilled has released a parcel of casks of the rare peated Mòine spirit from Bunnahabhain. These are 200L refill bourbon barrels filled on 27/10/2025 - same spirit, same fill date, same wood, same price. Smoke and sea air meet vanilla and toasted oak during maturation.
